A Royal Seal of Approval for President Tinubu’s Zero-Ransom Security Strategy

In national security and counter-terrorism, strategic success is rarely measured by rhetoric alone; it is validated by tangible operational outcomes, restored peace, and the lived experiences of citizens at the grassroots. Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Nigeria’s security apparatus, anchored by the Office of the National Security Adviser and coordinated across military, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies; has undergone a decisive, doctrine-driven transformation. Nowhere is this paradigm shift more evident than in the uncompromising, intelligence-led campaign against kidnapping and banditry across the geopolitical zones.

A profound testament to this evolving security effortsunfolded at the Presidential Villa when the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, led a delegation of prominent traditional rulers from the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs on a thank youvisit to Mr. President. The royal fathers made the journey to convey the heartfelt gratitude of their communities following the successful rescue of school pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Speaking on behalf of the traditional institution, the Olubadan noted that while apprehension naturally accompanies such delicate crisis situations, the flawless execution of the rescue operation affirmed the supreme operational capacity and resolve of Nigeria’s security forces.

The Oriire rescue operation exemplifies the operational doctrine of the current administration: an unyielding refusal to negotiate with terror or finance criminality through ransom payments, coupled with precision intelligence and relentless operational pressure. As President Tinubu emphasised during the audience, bowing to the financial demands of criminal syndicates only fuels the political economy of terror. By refusing to monetise human suffering and instead leveraging multi-agency intelligence tracking, specialised interdiction tactics, and local terrain knowledge, the security services demonstrated that non-state actors will find no safe haven anywhere within the sovereign borders of Nigeria.

This victory is not an isolated event but the dynamic result of structural adaptations within our national security matrix. The National Counter Terrorism Centre, working under the strategic direction of the Mallam Nuhu Ribadu-led Office of the National Security Adviser, continues to streamline inter-agency synergy, data fusion, and early-warning mechanisms. By expanding geographical coverage, strengthening frontline units, and integrating local communities into actionable intelligence networks, the federal government is systematically dismantling the logistics, communication, and funding lines of kidnapping networks.

The testimony of the Olubadan and the Oyo traditional council highlights a crucial element of modern counter-terrorism: the indispensable partnership between traditional institutions and formal security structures. Traditional rulers serve as the primary custodians of community trust and the eyes and ears of local terrain. When royal fathers publicly validate state interventions and rally their subjects to actively report suspicious activities, the operational environment becomes completely inhospitable to criminal elements.

Beyond immediate tactical operations, the current administration’s holistic approach connects physical security with socio-economic resilience. The simultaneous focus on strategic infrastructure, such as critical road corridors connecting agrarian communities, serves a dual purpose: expanding economic opportunities while eliminating the isolated, impenetrable blind spots that criminal gangs historically exploited.

As the National Counter Terrorism Centre under the leadership of Major General Adamu Garba Laka, continues to refine inter-agency operational protocols, the safe return of the Oriire victims stands as a beacon of what is possible through firm political will, tactical precision, and community collaboration. The gratitude expressed by the Oyo monarchs reflects a growing national consensus: Nigeria is steadily gaining the upper hand against terror and banditry. Under President Tinubu’s leadership, the mandate remains clear and unwavering: “To protect every Nigerian, secure every community, and restore complete peace across the nation.“
