The Nigeria Police Force has strengthened its collaboration with international partners in the fight against terrorism following the successful completion of a United Nations-backed specialised counter-terrorism investigations training programme in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the programme, held from July 13 to 31, 2026, was organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) under its Global Counter-Terrorism Investigations Programme in collaboration with Al Akhawayn University.
The statement said the training brought together law enforcement personnel from Nigeria, Kenya and Burkina Faso to deepen institutional cooperation and enhance professional capacity in tackling terrorism, violent extremism and transnational organised crime.
Nigeria was represented by a 10-member delegation led by ACP Favour Fadawa of the Nigeria Police Academy. During the programme, participants received advanced training in intelligence-led counter-terrorism investigations, including the identification of terrorist threat networks, disruption of criminal structures, preservation of admissible evidence and the promotion of accountability within the framework of the rule of law.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, said the international training reinforces the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to global efforts aimed at combating terrorism and other emerging security threats. He noted that the knowledge and skills acquired by the officers would strengthen the Force’s operational capacity in addressing evolving security challenges and dismantling transnational criminal networks.
The statement added that the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, PhD, FCNA, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy to ensure the immediate institutionalisation of the training outcomes across the Force. He also disclosed that the accreditation and commencement process for the proposed Executive Master’s Programme at the Nigeria Police Academy is at an advanced stage.
The Nigeria Police Force expressed appreciation to the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, Al Akhawayn University, the participating countries and the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco for their support and hospitality.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to building a modern, intelligence-driven and professionally competent policing institution capable of addressing terrorism and transnational crime while contributing to regional and global peace and security.
