Personnel of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO have rescued two teenagers from drowning after their wooden boat capsized in Egweama Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
According to an official statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the incident occurred on 28 July 2026 when the two 16-year-old boys encountered difficulties while returning from a routine trip along the community waterways. Their wooden boat reportedly capsized due to adverse water conditions, leaving them stranded and at risk of drowning.
The statement said personnel of FOB FORMOSO quickly responded after sighting the distressed teenagers and successfully rescued them from the water. The victims were immediately evacuated to safety, where they received the necessary assistance and medical attention to assess their condition.
The Nigerian Navy said the successful rescue demonstrated the professionalism, vigilance, and operational readiness of its personnel in safeguarding lives within Nigeria’s maritime environment. It added that the operation reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to maritime safety, search and rescue missions, and the protection of lives in coastal and riverine communities.
The Navy further noted that the intervention reflects its people-oriented approach and continued efforts to strengthen relationships with host communities through timely humanitarian responses.
It reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all legitimate users of Nigeria’s waterways while sustaining its constitutional mandate of securing the nation’s maritime domain.
