Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded a series of operational successes in Katsina State, rescuing a kidnapped victim, arresting suspects during a joint security raid, and recovering 126 rustled livestock in separate operations across the state.

According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations underscore the Task Force’s sustained offensive against terrorists and other criminal elements in the North West.

The statement disclosed that in the early hours of July 26, 2026, troops, in conjunction with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, responded to a distress call over terrorist activity at Karkata Village in Charanchi Local Government Area. While advancing to the location, the troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to abandon their kidnapped victim before fleeing into the surrounding bush. The victim was rescued unharmed and safely reunited with her family.

In another operation, troops of Sector 2, working alongside personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), carried out coordinated raids at Wagin, Tundu Mobi and Chadawaki communities in Batsari Local Government Area. The operation led to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm loaded with five cartridges, among other exhibits. The suspects and recovered items have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.

Also on July 26, troops acting on credible intelligence laid an ambush at a suspected terrorist crossing point near Yankwani Village in Bakori Local Government Area. During the operation, the troops engaged suspected terrorists attempting to move rustled livestock through the area. Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the terrorists fled, abandoning 126 livestock comprising 83 cattle and 43 sheep.

The recovered animals were subsequently handed over to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori, in the presence of local government officials, for proper identification and return to their rightful owners.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the gallantry, vigilance and professionalism displayed by the troops during the operations. He also reassured residents of Katsina State and the wider North West region of the Task Force’s unwavering commitment to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace and security across the region.
