The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General WB Idris, has pledged the full support of the Theatre Command for a peacebuilding and conflict resolution initiative being championed by the Association of Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces (REMNAF), Zamfara State Chapter.

According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the commitment was made on Friday, 24 July 2026, when Major General Idris received the executives of REMNAF, Zamfara State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Major Adamu Maikano (Rtd), at the Theatre Headquarters in Gusau.

During the meeting, Major Maikano (Rtd) sought the Theatre Commander’s support for a proposed four-day mediation and conflict resolution accreditation training for retired military personnel in Zamfara State. He explained that the programme is intended to equip veterans with practical skills in mediation, negotiation, alternative dispute resolution and peacebuilding, enabling them to continue contributing to peace and security within their communities. He appealed for assistance in providing a venue, logistics, accommodation and welfare for the facilitators.

Responding, Major General Idris commended REMNAF for its continued commitment to national service, describing retired military personnel as strategic partners in fostering public understanding of military operations and advancing peacebuilding efforts.

The Theatre Commander stressed that military operations alone cannot completely address insecurity, emphasizing the need for sustained collaboration with veterans and other stakeholders, particularly in intelligence gathering and community engagement. He praised the proposed training initiative, assured the association of the Theatre’s support for its successful implementation, and disclosed that officers and soldiers of Operation FANSAN YAMMA would also participate in the programme.

The statement noted that the engagement reaffirmed the Theatre Command’s recognition of retired military personnel as valuable partners in promoting peace and security, while underscoring the importance of leveraging their wealth of experience to complement ongoing military operations through peacebuilding, community engagement and public support for security initiatives across the North West.

The visit concluded with a group photograph and a tour of the Theatre’s Wall of Heroes, where members of the delegation were briefed on the sacrifices of Operation FANSAN YAMMA personnel whose names are inscribed on the monument in honour of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation since the establishment of the Theatre in 2024.
