Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled an attempted terrorist extortion mission in Yobe State, neutralising one insurgent and recovering weapons, ammunition and logistics items during a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
According to an official signed statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the operation was carried out following credible and actionable intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from communities in the state.
The statement said troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026, where they made contact with the terrorists.
The troops reportedly engaged the insurgents with superior firepower, successfully immobilising one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles and neutralising its driver. Four other terrorists were said to have abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds after failing to withstand the troops’ offensive.
Captain Goni disclosed that follow-up exploitation operations conducted on July 20, 2026, along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to have supported terrorist logistics and sustainment activities.
He said the operation highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and the sustained offensive posture of Operation HADIN KAI in disrupting terrorist logistics, dismantling illicit revenue networks and denying insurgents freedom of action across the North East Theatre.
The Acting Military Information Officer reaffirmed that Operation HADIN KAI would continue to sustain intelligence-driven offensive operations in collaboration with other security agencies and with the support of law-abiding citizens until terrorism is decisively defeated and lasting peace, security and stability are restored across the region.
