Operatives of the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters in Abia State have arrested a 22-year-old suspected armed robber, Chidera Okorie, for allegedly terrorising unsuspecting members of the public with a stainless steel lighter fashioned to resemble a pistol.
According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the suspect, who hails from Obinolu Ngodo Isiochi, was apprehended on July 5, 2026, following actionable intelligence.
The statement disclosed that the suspect allegedly used the lighter, designed to look like a real firearm, to intimidate victims before robbing them of their belongings.
During the operation, police recovered the fake pistol-like lighter along with other items believed to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.
DSP Chinaka said investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Abia State Police Command urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities and other security concerns to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines to support efforts at combating crime across the state.
