The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, Mohammed Adamu Ndagiyapa, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi, Abuja, over an alleged N4.31 million job racketeering scheme.

According to an official statement signed by the Spokesperson and Head, Media and Public Communications of the ICPC, J. Okor Odey, the defendant, a Marshal Inspector II with the FRSC, was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on receiving gratification and using his office to confer corrupt advantage upon himself, contrary to the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The statement disclosed that Ndagiyapa allegedly received N3.26 million between January 2021 and December 2022 through his Stanbic IBTC Bank and First City Monumental Bank accounts from one Dauda Zira Gambo under the pretext of securing employment for the latter’s relatives into the FRSC.

The Commission further alleged that the defendant collected an additional N1.05 million from one Munda Babayo for the same purpose of facilitating employment for her relations, bringing the total amount involved in the alleged scheme to N4.31 million.

According to the ICPC, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 10(a)(ii) and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The anti-corruption agency stated that its investigation revealed that the defendant allegedly presented himself as having the capacity to secure employment opportunities in the FRSC by virtue of his relationship with senior officers of the Corps.

The statement noted that when the charges were read before Honourable Justice F.E. Messiri, Ndagiyapa pleaded not guilty to all four counts.

Following the plea, counsel to the ICPC, Leslie Iheduru, prayed the court for a date for the commencement of trial.

Justice Messiri subsequently admitted the defendant to bail on the terms of his earlier administrative bail and adjourned the matter until September 16, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to sanitising the public service and ensuring that allegations of corruption, abuse of office and related offences are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
