The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, has certified 712 newly trained Corporals and Constables following the successful completion of an intensive Musketry and Weapons Handling Training Programme aimed at enhancing professionalism and operational readiness within the Nigeria Police Force.
According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, the training was conducted in three batches from 1 to 19 June 2026 at the 11 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Calabar.
The statement disclosed that the programme brought together officers drawn from the three senatorial districts of Cross River State and forms part of the strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to strengthen the operational capacity of police personnel through continuous, standardized and professional training.
During the certification ceremony, the newly trained officers demonstrated their competence in weapon stripping and handling, tactical formations, combat manoeuvring and obstacle crossing, reflecting the Command’s commitment to building a disciplined, highly skilled and operationally ready workforce.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Erasmus Ekpang, the Chairmen of Calabar South and Calabar Municipality Local Government Areas, senior police officers, heads of other security agencies and top government officials, highlighting the importance of continuous capacity building and inter-agency collaboration in enhancing public safety.
Addressing the officers, CP Afegbua emphasized that the responsible and lawful use of firearms must always be guided by discipline, sound judgment, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
He urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, fairness and accountability, stressing that every interaction with members of the public presents an opportunity to strengthen confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner also commended the Department of Operations, the Squadron Commander of the 11 Police Mobile Force Squadron, instructors and facilitators for their dedication to the successful execution of the programme.
He congratulated the 712 officers on completing the training and encouraged them to remain committed to excellence, discipline and selfless service in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
The Cross River State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity building, operational excellence and professional policing in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of residents across the state.
