Troops of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have foiled a terrorist attack at Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State, neutralising two suspected terrorists and recovering arms, ammunition and other items during a swift counter-operation.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the operation was carried out on Sunday, 28 June 2026, following a distress call received while troops were conducting fighting and confidence-building patrols in the area.

The statement said troops immediately mobilised to the scene where they made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

During the encounter, two suspected terrorists, identified as Dantaraba and Golozo, were neutralised, effectively foiling the planned attack on the popular market.

Items recovered after the operation included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, one damaged pistol, one pistol magazine, six rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, one ATM card, one Moniepoint ATM card and other sundry items.

The military said the successful operation ensured the safety of traders and residents, allowing commercial activities at the Tor Donga Yam Market to continue without disruption or fear of terrorist attacks.

Commending the troops for their gallantry, the Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, praised their professionalism, resilience and prompt response, noting that their timely intervention prevented what could have resulted in significant civilian casualties and disruption of economic activities.

Major General Gara also lauded the Benue State Civil Protection Guard for its effective collaboration with the military in ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

He further expressed appreciation to members of the public for providing timely and credible intelligence that contributed to the operational success, urging residents to sustain their support for security agencies.

“Security remains a collective responsibility. We encourage members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information that will assist security agencies in safeguarding lives and property,” the Force Commander said.

The successful operation underscores the renewed resolve of Operation WHIRL STROKE and other security stakeholders to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements and strengthen security across Benue State and its environs.
