Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded significant operational successes in Zamfara State, neutralizing terrorists, rescuing three kidnapped victims, and recovering arms, ammunition, and other logistics during coordinated operations in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas.
According to an official signed statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the achievements were recorded as troops intensified efforts to rid the state of banditry and terrorist activities.
The statement disclosed that on June 12, 2026, troops conducting a fighting patrol across Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi Local Government Area made contact with a group of terrorists in Yanbuki District.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops neutralized one terrorist and recovered rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.
The statement further noted that as the patrol advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled upon sensing the superior firepower of the advancing troops. The troops subsequently cleared and completely destroyed the enclave.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis, troops on routine patrol successfully ambushed another group of terrorists. One terrorist was neutralized during the encounter, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and assorted charms.
Lieutenant Colonel Osoba also disclosed that troops rescued three kidnapped victims during the operations. The victims are currently receiving necessary care, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA to restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
