The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening defence cooperation and enhancing intelligence sharing between both countries.
According to an official signed statement by the Chief Information Officer, Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, for the Director of Information and Public Relations, the agreement was concluded on Sunday, 10 May 2026, in Amman. It was signed on behalf of Nigeria by the Minister of State for Defence, H.E. Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, while Major General Yousef A. Alhnaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, signed for Jordan.
The MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration in intelligence exchange, defence capability development, counter-terrorism operations, joint military training, defence research, and industrial cooperation, as well as mutual support for regional and global peace and security efforts.
Dr. Matawalle described the agreement as a significant milestone in Nigeria–Jordan defence relations, noting that enhanced cooperation was essential in addressing evolving security challenges confronting both nations.
He stated that both countries recognise the value of mutually beneficial partnerships and remain committed to deepening defence ties to promote peace, security, and stability within their respective regions.
The Minister further underscored the importance of technology transfer, including the establishment of a production line in Nigeria in line with the provisions of the DICON Act.
The statement added that the MoU reflects the commitment of both countries to cooperate in good faith, strengthen mutual trust, and advance coordinated action on shared security priorities.
