The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing global trade cooperation as it hosted a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception in Abuja.

The event, held on June 3, 2026, at the rooftop of the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Maitama, brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of diplomatic missions, senior government officials, and top security chiefs in a strategic engagement designed to deepen international collaboration and institutional partnerships.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management team, and senior officials from key government and security institutions.

Addressing the gathering, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s international partners for their continued support in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting trade cooperation.

“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” Adeniyi stated.

The Customs boss noted that the Service has continued to expand its global engagement through structured collaboration with more than twenty customs administrations across the world. He explained that the partnerships focus on knowledge sharing, capacity development, and operational cooperation aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and improving border management.

Adeniyi emphasized that stronger collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions, and security agencies remains essential for achieving efficient border security, boosting revenue generation, and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy.

He further observed that modern customs administration operates within an increasingly interconnected global environment, making sustained engagement, trust-building, and shared responsibility critical to addressing emerging challenges in trade, security, and compliance management.

According to him, platforms such as the diplomatic reception provide valuable opportunities for dialogue, relationship building, and the exploration of new areas of cooperation capable of strengthening Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic architecture.

The event concluded with networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts in fostering stronger international partnerships and creating an enabling environment for cooperation and economic growth.
