The Nigeria Police Force has concluded the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop on Advancing Innovation, Governance, and the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Law Enforcement, reaffirming its commitment to leveraging emerging technologies to enhance policing and public safety across the country.
According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid, the workshop, held on June 3, 2026, in Abuja, brought together senior law enforcement officials, technology experts, and international partners to examine the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern policing.
Participants engaged in extensive discussions on the practical applications of AI in security operations, the challenges associated with integrating emerging technologies into law enforcement, and lessons from global experiences that could support the development of a technology-driven policing framework in Nigeria.
Reflecting on the outcome of the workshop, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, noted that the deliberations underscored the reality that artificial intelligence is already transforming security operations across the world and can no longer be viewed as a future consideration.
The IGP expressed appreciation to participants, facilitators, experts, and development partners whose contributions ensured the success of the dialogue, while reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to sustaining collaboration in the responsible adoption of emerging technologies.
One of the major highlights of the workshop was a presentation on the outcomes of the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, during which Nigeria was recognised as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot initiative.
Participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop within their respective commands and operational environments, translating discussions into practical measures that will strengthen law enforcement effectiveness and accountability.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event, stressing that continued collaboration and innovation remain critical to building safer communities and a more responsive, accountable police service for all Nigerians.
