Troops of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under 2 Division Nigerian Army, have rescued a woman and her six-month-old child after terrorists abducted five members of a family in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to an official signed statement by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the rescue followed a swift military response to the kidnapping incident which occurred late on June 3, 2026, in Egbe.
The statement disclosed that the terrorists invaded a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe, and abducted five members of a family, including a woman, her infant child and three other persons.
Upon receiving a distress report, troops immediately mobilized alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and launched a pursuit operation along the terrorists’ escape route.
The statement noted that sustained pressure from the combined security team forced the terrorists to abandon Mrs. Adekemi Idowu and her six-month-old child near the Oro axis before fleeing into the surrounding area.
The rescued victims were subsequently returned safely to their residence.
Meanwhile, troops have intensified search and rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining victims and track down those responsible for the attack.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations across the state.
