The Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified proactive security operations across the state during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, leading to the arrest of suspected criminals and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons.

According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, operatives of the Command recorded significant operational breakthroughs in a sustained effort to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Sallah celebration across the state.

The statement disclosed that on 27 May 2026 at about 4:30 p.m., operatives attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), while on intensive patrol around Ombi I in Lafia, intercepted three suspects identified as Julius Ishaya, 25; Shuaibu Nuhu, 24; and David Usman, 26, all residents of Transformer Street, Ombi I, Lafia.

The suspects were reportedly intercepted with a small handbag and failed to give satisfactory account of themselves during interrogation.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol, one live 9mm ammunition, four Android phones, criminal charms, and one Bajaj motorcycle.

The police said the suspects have been taken into custody while investigations continue to unravel their criminal network and possible involvement in other criminal activities within the state.

In a related development, the statement revealed that on the same date at about 7:07 p.m., the Area Commander, Metro Lafia, received a distress call from a resident of the Bukan Kwato area of Lafia, reporting that members of an unlawful society who allegedly held a meeting in Lafia had been intercepted while returning to Mararaba Akunza through the New Bypass.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a police patrol team was mobilised to the scene, resulting in the arrest of three suspects identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, 17; Walid Mohammed, 14; and Zubairu Ibrahim, all residents of Mararaba Akunza, Lafia.

Items recovered from the suspects included one locally made pistol, one axe, and one red beret suspected to be associated with cult-related activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The police commissioner also warned criminal elements and members of unlawful societies to desist from criminal activities or face the full wrath of the law.

He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to strengthen security across the state.

According to the statement, the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
