By Nkechi Eze

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed more than 56,000 personnel across the country ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as part of intensified measures to safeguard lives, property and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).

According to an official signed statement by the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Babawale Afolabi, the nationwide deployment was approved by the Commandant General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

The statement disclosed that the Commandant General also ordered the immediate mobilization of operational vehicles, ambulances, boats and K9 units to strengthen rapid emergency response capabilities during the festive period.

Professor Audi further directed all specialised tactical squads of the Corps to remain on maximum alert to prevent any security breach across the federation.

The tactical formations placed on high alert include the Mining Marshals, Special Intelligence Squad, Crack Squad, Female Special Force and the Rapid Response Squad.

To ensure effective implementation of the nationwide security operation, the NSCDC activated a strict supervisory framework across all commands.

Under the arrangement, Zonal Commanders have been mandated to directly supervise commands within their areas of responsibility and maintain close operational coordination with State Commandants.

Similarly, State Commandants were directed to ensure full compliance with the operational order by closely monitoring Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Heads of Outposts under their jurisdictions.

The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with other security agencies in maintaining peace and public safety during the Sallah celebrations.

The NSCDC also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing criminal activities and enabling swift operational response.

The Corps issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to vandalize public infrastructure or disrupt public peace during the festive period, stressing that anyone found engaging in unlawful activities would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
