The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has visited communities in Oyo State following the attack and abduction incident recorded in Oriire Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, 15 May 2026, ordering the intensification of ongoing search-and-rescue operations.

According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the Inspector-General expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to families who lost loved ones during the attack.

During the visit, the IGP was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, and the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, as part of coordinated efforts to strengthen operational response and school safety measures in the affected corridor bordering Kwara State.

The Inspector-General also met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, alongside other security stakeholders, where he received detailed briefings on ongoing deployments and rescue operations across the impacted communities.

He assured residents that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified intelligence-driven search-and-rescue operations, tactical deployments, and surveillance across surrounding forests and communities to ensure the safe rescue of abducted victims.

The IGP condemned the attack as cruel and unacceptable, stressing that all necessary measures were being taken to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.

He further directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing operations in the area and adjoining forest locations.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting schools, communities, and citizens across the country, assuring that no effort would be spared in restoring normalcy to the affected areas.
