Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ikoyi, have commenced investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, for allegedly being in possession of a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.
In an official signed statement, the Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that Anoruo, who runs a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, was arrested by EFCC operatives on Monday, April 20, 2026.
According to the statement, the case began after the suspect submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025 to the EFCC on behalf of his clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited. However, subsequent investigations reportedly uncovered irregularities in the documents he submitted.
The EFCC stated that both the petition and a later Letter of Withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, were found to bear a forged NBA seal. During interrogation, Anoruo allegedly admitted to obtaining the seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
Investigators further revealed that the 55-year-old suspect claimed he obtained a Law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, through evening classes, but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in Nigeria.
The Commission added that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
