The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has apprehended a 24-year-old suspected vandal caught allegedly removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk at its 330kV switchyard in the Benin Sub-Region.

The suspect, identified as Mr Wisdom Amaunam of Erediauwa Community, was arrested at about 10am on Thursday, October 22, 2026, by a TCN security officer who caught him tampering with the installation during a routine patrol.

According to an official statement issued by the management of TCN, the suspect was subsequently handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.

The company disclosed that Amaunam remained in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.

TCN commended its security personnel and the NSCDC for their vigilance and collaboration in protecting critical national power infrastructure against vandalism and other forms of sabotage.

The company reiterated its zero tolerance for vandalism, trespassing and deliberate attacks on transmission installations, warning that such activities threaten the stability and reliability of electricity supply.

It also urged host communities and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities around transmission facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
