The Nigeria Police Force has announced the commencement of activities for the 2026 National Police Day celebration, unveiling a week-long programme designed to deepen trust and collaboration between the police and the public.

The announcement followed a formal press briefing held on March 23, 2026, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, spoke on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. He disclosed that the nationwide celebration will commence on Monday, March 30, 2026, and culminate in a grand finale on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

According to him, this year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” underscores the Force’s renewed commitment to strengthening collaboration with citizens, enhancing transparency, and fostering sustainable trust as the bedrock of effective policing across the country.

Placid explained that an organizing committee has already been constituted to ensure the smooth execution of the event. The committee is chaired by Akoh Benedict Gabriel, while he serves as secretary. The committee comprises senior officers drawn from key operational departments of the Force, including the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Police Mobile Force, Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit, as well as the Police Medical Services.

He further outlined that the activities lined up for the celebration will begin with nationwide environmental sanitation exercises and free medical outreach programmes targeted at vulnerable groups. This will be followed by a national walkathon to be held across state capitals, aimed at promoting unity and strengthening police-community relations.

The programme will also feature public sensitization campaigns focusing on the dangers of electoral violence and the importance of safe driving practices, as well as ceremonies to honour fallen police personnel through the presentation of cheques to their families both at the Force Headquarters and across state commands.

The week-long event will climax with a ceremonial parade at the Eagle Square in Abuja, where specialized units of the Force, including the Police Mobile Force, K-9 Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, and the Counter Terrorism Unit, are expected to stage tactical displays demonstrating the operational readiness of the Force.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to people-centered policing anchored on trust, mutual respect, and active community engagement, while calling on community leaders, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the scheduled activities.
