Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a suspect, Ifeanyi Mba, over an alleged ₦10 million land fraud in Enugu State.
The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Commission’s Enugu Zonal Directorate following a petition from a victim who alleged that he paid the suspect the sum of ₦10 million for a piece of land located at Plot 677 Owo/Premier Layout in the Ogui Nike community of the state.
According to a statement issued by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the petitioner later discovered that the land was already being developed by unknown persons.
The petitioner said he contacted the suspect to clarify the situation but was informed that the property was government-owned land.
The victim reportedly made several attempts to recover his money, but the suspect allegedly became unreachable and failed to refund the payment.
Preliminary investigations by the anti-graft agency revealed that there is no layout bearing Plot 677 Owo/Premier within government-acquired areas. Investigators also discovered that Owo Layout and Premier Layout are two separate layouts.
The EFCC said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
