The Nigerian Navy has recorded a major operational breakthrough following the neutralisation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) cell linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during a clearance operation in Orsu Local Government Area.

The successful operation was carried out by troops of the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron, working in collaboration with other security agencies to flush out criminal elements operating within the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis, including the Mother Valley general area.

In a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, naval personnel conducted a coordinated clearance of suspected hideouts used by members of the proscribed group.

According to him, troops encountered several Improvised Explosive Devices during the operation, confirming the existence of an active IED network within the area.

“Subsequent exploitation of the location led to the discovery of an IED-making facility,” Folorunsho said, noting that naval troops immediately launched a coordinated ambush that resulted in the neutralisation of two suspected IED specialists linked to the group.

He added that all explosives recovered during the operation were safely destroyed on site to prevent any potential harm to civilians and security personnel.

The naval spokesman further confirmed that all personnel and equipment involved in the operation remained intact, while the mission was successfully concluded without casualties on the side of the security forces.

Reaffirming the Service’s commitment to national security, the Nigerian Navy stated that it would continue to sustain aggressive, intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
