The Great Ife Alumni Association has applauded the appointment of Adejare Bello as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University.

In a statement jointly signed by the Global President of the association, Leye Bunmi Falode, and the Global Publicity Secretary, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the alumni body described Bello’s appointment as well deserved, noting that he brings a rich blend of legislative experience, diplomatic exposure, and a deep commitment to educational advancement.

The association stated that Bello’s pedigree as an accomplished lawyer, legislator, diplomat and seasoned politician must have informed his selection for the leadership position in the university’s governing council.

According to the alumni, his wealth of experience and exposure as an administrator is expected to positively impact the institution and contribute to its continued growth and development.

The statement further noted that as an alumnus of the university who obtained his Law degree from the Faculty of Law, Bello’s academic background and enduring connection with the institution place him in a strong position to understand its heritage, values and aspirations.

The Great Ife Alumni Association expressed confidence in his ability to provide visionary leadership and work harmoniously with other council members, management, staff unions, students, alumni and other stakeholders in advancing the mission and global reputation of the university.

While congratulating Bello on what it described as a well-deserved appointment, the alumni body expressed optimism that his tenure would usher in a new era of stability, progress and excellence for the institution.

The association also recalled that the immediate past Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Siyan Oyeweso, who hailed from Ede, Osun State, passed away in December 2025 after a brief illness at the age of 64.
