Lieutenant General (Dr) Faruk Yahaya (rtd) CFR, Zarumman Sokoto and former Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, has instituted a defamation suit seeking N1.5 billion in damages against Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi (rtd), Arise Broadcasting Limited, and Sahara Reporters Media Group Inc. at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja. The suit was filed on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, following the expiration of a demand notice.

In an official statement signed by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), acting on behalf of Lt Gen Yahaya, it was disclosed that the former Army Chief is seeking formal retractions and public apologies from the defendants over publications and broadcasts he contends were false, malicious, and injurious to his reputation, character, and integrity. The suit also seeks monetary compensation of N1.5 billion and N600 million respectively.

The legal action arises from media reports linking Lt Gen Yahaya to allegations of terrorism financing, illegal mining, and banditry, which he asserts are unfounded and damaging to his public standing.

Court records indicate that the matter has been duly filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and the defendants have been served with the court processes to enter appearance in accordance with the rules of court.

The suit underscores Lt Gen Yahaya’s determination to defend his reputation and challenge what he describes as defamatory reporting by both individuals and media organisations.
