The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the premises of an illegal organisation impersonating the Commission and arrested its operator in Aba, Abia State.

According to an official signed statement by Ondaje Ijagwu, Director, Corporate Affairs, the enforcement operation took place on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, at No. 214 Aba-Owerri Road. The entity, operating under the name Community Crime Prevention Initiative of Nigeria (CCPIN), had been fraudulently presenting itself as an “Authorised Consumer Protection NGO” affiliated with the FCCPC.

The FCCPC acted on credible intelligence which revealed that CCPIN had issued public notices falsely claiming joint surveillance operations with the Commission and was collecting consumer complaints through unauthorised telephone lines.

During the operation, the operator of the facility, identified as Amb. Dr. Onwuka K. Okorie, was apprehended at the scene and is currently in custody at the World Bank Police Station, Abayi-Aba, pending further investigation and prosecution.

Recovered from the premises were various exhibits bearing FCCPC’s name and logo, including counterfeit enforcement materials, which the Commission described as “false and unauthorised.”

The FCCPC categorically disassociated itself from CCPIN and clarified that it does not authorise, partner with, or delegate enforcement responsibilities to any non-governmental organisation, private entity, or individual without formal legal backing.

“The Commission remains committed to transparency and integrity in all its consumer protection and enforcement activities,” the statement noted.

The public has been advised to disregard any notices or campaigns issued by CCPIN or any of its affiliates and to verify any FCCPC-related enforcement through the official website (www.fccpc.gov.ng), social media (@fccpcnigeria), or the Commission’s hotlines: 08056002020 and 08056003030.
