In a move aimed at bolstering the nation’s energy sector, President Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the new Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). This strategic decision is expected to drive growth and development in rural communities across Nigeria.
Aliyu’s impressive track record, boasting over 20 years of experience in energy policy and organizational development, makes him an ideal candidate for the role. His previous stint as Head of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) at the REA has equipped him with the expertise to oversee the implementation of critical projects.
In addition to Aliyu’s appointment, President Tinubu has also named new heads of the agency’s departments: Ayoade Gboyega: Executive Director, Corporate Services, Umar Abdullahi Umar: Executive Director, Technical Services, Doris Uboh: Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF), Olufemi Akinyelure: Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project.
The appointment is effective as of January 23, 2025, and is initially valid for a four-year term, as specified in the relevant provisions for Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders.
These appointments underscore President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance. As the new leadership team assumes office, the President has charged the Managing Director and their team to leverage their expertise in ensuring rural communities have access to a reliable and consistent electric power supply.
