The Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) Citizens Liberties Committee, led by Chairman Nuhu Egya, Esq., recently paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. During the visit, the committee presented key demands to the security operatives, advocating for the protection of citizens’ rights and liberties.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Citizens Liberties Committee has appealed to the authorities to ease up on the crackdown on vehicles with tinted glasses. The two main concerns highlighted includes: the right to privacy and the needs of citizens with eyesight issues who may require tinted glasses for their protection.
The Committee also raised concerns regarding the involvement of police officers in civil disputes, emphasizing the need for clear boundaries.
In his response, CP Disu outlined the successes achieved through the clampdown on vehicles with tinted glasses, covered number plates, and vehicles without number plates.
In his words “The identification of six different groups involved in “one chance” armed robbery and arrest of 15 one chance operators, the recovery of 7 operational vehicles with tinted glasses used by one chance robbers, and the rescue of four victims from one chance criminal activities”.
CP Disu emphasized the positive results of ongoing operations and called for continued public support and cooperation to maintain momentum in the fight against crime.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the NBA Citizens Liberties Committee for their engagement and advocacy.
He emphasized the crucial role of synergy between the Police, the judiciary, and the community in bolstering security and protecting the rights of citizens.
