The Poland striker was forced off 32 minutes into their final warm-up game against Turkey on Monday, in a game which saw the Poles claim a last-gasp 2-1 victory in Warsaw.

Poland are set to kick off their Euros campaign on Sunday against the Netherlands, who thrashed Iceland 4-0 in their final friendly in Rotterdam. But Lewandowski will be absent from that game, with it emerging that he has suffered a ruptured biceps thigh muscle.A statement assured that everything will be done to ensure Lewandowski is fit for their second game of the competition.”Robert Lewandowski suffered a ruptured biceps thigh muscle which will rule him out of the first match of the tournament,” Poland doctor Jacek Jaroszewski said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We are doing everything to ensure that Robert can play in the second game, against Austria.”Lewandowski assisted fellow forward Karol Swidersky’s 12th-minute goal against Turkey, with the Charlotte FC star also withdrawn through injury in the 19th minute.

Michal Probierz played down the extent of Lewandowski’s injury on Monday and insisted he had no plans to call up a replacement for the 35-year-old Barcelona star.Robert Lewandowski has endured an injury just days before the start of the Euros (Getty)”Robert has a slight injury, hopefully, there should be no problems,” Probierz said.

“Karol twisted his ankle joint, after the tests the situation will be known.”Also the change of Pawel Dawidowicz was due to an injury. I hope they will recover after a few days. We do not plan to call up anyone.”Poland’s latest injury concerns come after Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik was ruled out of the tournament through injury.
