Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a swift military response to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the rescue operation was carried out in the early hours of 26 July 2026 after troops received a distress call reporting a large-scale terrorist invasion of the community.

The statement said the attackers, numbering several dozen and riding about 40 motorcycles, stormed Magami village, rounded up many residents and attempted to whisk them away into the surrounding bush, while another group waited on the outskirts of the community with the motorcycles.

On receiving the alert, troops of Sector 2 immediately mobilised to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. The superior response forced the attackers to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the bush, leading to the successful rescue of all 48 abducted civilians.

The military, however, disclosed that one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Following the operation, troops launched aggressive patrols across the general area to dominate the terrain and prevent any further terrorist activity.

The Theatre Command commended the courage, professionalism and prompt response of the troops, describing the operation as another demonstration of the military’s resolve to protect lives and property across the North West.

It also reassured residents of the region of its unwavering commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements.

The military further appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that intelligence supplied by residents remains critical to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the North West.
