Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five family members of the Executive Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Honourable Nura Umar Abdullahi, following a terrorist attack on his residence in the early hours of Saturday, while a coordinated search operation continues to secure his release.
According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the terrorists stormed the Chairman’s residence on 25 July 2026, overpowering his police and vigilante security detail before abducting him alongside members of his family.
The statement said troops responded immediately after hearing gunshots and swiftly advanced to the scene, engaging the fleeing terrorists in a fierce pursuit.
The prompt military response forced the terrorists to abandon five members of the Chairman’s family, including his wife, mother, two children and another relative, all of whom were rescued safely. However, the attackers escaped into nearby bushes with the Council Chairman.
The attack claimed the lives of three members of the Chairman’s security detail comprising two police officers and one local vigilante who reportedly fought the assailants. A civilian was also killed, while the Chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries during the attack.
The statement disclosed that the Theatre Command has activated a coordinated search and rescue operation involving troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes. Security personnel are currently conducting deliberate operations at suspected terrorist hideouts in an effort to rescue the abducted Chairman safely.
The Theatre Command said all available operational resources have been deployed and that it remains in close coordination with participating security agencies to ensure a successful outcome.
It also appealed to residents of Zamfara State to remain calm, continue their lawful activities, and provide credible information through established security channels to support the ongoing operation.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that efforts would continue until the abducted Chairman is safely reunited with his family and those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
