The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) have initiated a partnership aimed at expanding digital inclusion for women and strengthening collaboration on technology-driven initiatives across Nigeria.

The partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by a NAWOJ delegation, led by its National President, Comrade Aishatu Ibrahim, to the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE. The visit also served to brief the agency on the forthcoming Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026.

Represented by the Director of Stakeholders Management and Partnerships, Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Inuwa reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to participating in and supporting the summit. He said the agency views the initiative as an important platform for promoting peacebuilding, security dialogue, women’s empowerment, and digital inclusion.

Inuwa noted that gender inclusion remains a central pillar of NITDA’s programmes, disclosing that the agency has adopted a policy requiring at least 40 per cent gender representation across its initiatives to ensure more women benefit from digital literacy and skills development programmes under the National Gender Inclusive Strategy.

He added that collaboration with NAWOJ would provide an opportunity to extend digital literacy initiatives beyond journalists to women-focused organisations across the country, thereby accelerating efforts to bridge the gender digital divide and promote inclusive participation in Nigeria’s digital economy.

Speaking during the visit, Comrade Ibrahim commended the NITDA Director General for what she described as his visionary leadership in driving Nigeria’s digital transformation through innovative programmes and policies.

She explained that the Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026 is designed to foster collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, technology experts, the media, and other stakeholders in addressing emerging security challenges.

According to her, the summit will also recognise individuals and institutions that have distinguished themselves in security, governance, and innovation, while encouraging discussions on the role of technology in building a safer and more resilient Nigeria.

Ibrahim expressed optimism that a long-term partnership between NAWOJ and NITDA would enhance digital capacity among women journalists, promote digital inclusion, and contribute to innovation, digital literacy, and human capital development nationwide.

Both organisations expressed confidence that the engagement would pave the way for a formal partnership with clearly defined objectives aimed at empowering women through technology and supporting Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda.
