The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports suggesting that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over an alleged visa racketeering scheme.
According to an official signed statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, the Commission stated unequivocally that it has no case against the Immigration Comptroller General and that she is not connected in any way to its ongoing investigations.
The clarification follows media reports alleging visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service and insinuations that the Comptroller General was being investigated by the anti-graft agency.
The EFCC explained that while there are ongoing cases of alleged visa fraud involving some immigration officers currently before the Federal High Court, the investigations do not involve Kemi Nandap.
The Commission added that investigations into the alleged visa fraud are continuing and that additional Nigeria Immigration Service personnel may be arraigned if sufficient evidence is established.
The EFCC also urged media organisations to verify information relating to its activities before publication in order to avoid the misrepresentation of facts.
