The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, has described the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as unmatched in Nigeria’s recent history, urging members of the City Boy Movement to intensify grassroots sensitisation on the Federal Government’s reforms and development programmes.
According to an official statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Chris Ugwuegbulam, Akume made the remarks while receiving members of the City Boy Movement, led by its Director-General, Mr. Oluwatosin Shoga, on Thursday in Abuja.
The SGF said that despite inheriting significant economic challenges, the Tinubu administration had recorded notable achievements within a short period under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He cited the completion of several previously abandoned road projects, including sections of the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, and disclosed that numerous roads, universities, schools, power projects and dams across the country’s six geopolitical zones were awaiting commissioning.
Akume also highlighted the rebuilding of Nigeria’s foreign reserves as one of the administration’s major accomplishments.
“This government has, within a very short period, regenerated our reserves from virtually zero to close to 50 billion dollars. That is a record that has not been witnessed in many decades. It is a product of bold reforms, careful planning, commitment and purposeful leadership,” he said.
The SGF called on members of the City Boy Movement to take the administration’s scorecard directly to communities across the country, stressing the importance of providing Nigerians with factual information on government policies and programmes.
“You have a responsibility to help tell Nigerians what this government is doing. Many people only need access to factual information. Take the message to the grassroots so that citizens can appreciate the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, described Akume as one of President Tinubu’s most loyal supporters, commending his contributions to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the history of the current administration would not be complete without recognising the SGF’s role in advancing the President’s programmes and policies.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Mr. Oluwatosin Shoga, sought greater collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to strengthen grassroots awareness of the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
He expressed appreciation to Akume for his continued support for the administration and conveyed the goodwill of the Movement’s Patron, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, as well as its leadership and members.
Shoga reaffirmed the Movement’s commitment to promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing Seyi Tinubu as an inspiration to many young Nigerians through his commitment to youth development, grassroots mobilisation and national service.
He disclosed that the City Boy Movement has evolved into one of Nigeria’s largest youth-driven political and civic mobilisation platforms, with a focus on informing, engaging and empowering young people while strengthening the relationship between government and citizens.
According to him, the Movement has already carried out grassroots engagements in several states, including Benue, and is entering a new phase of nationwide mobilisation aimed at promoting public understanding of government policies and consolidating support for the administration.
“The real engagement has begun. We believe that effective communication and sustained grassroots mobilisation are essential to ensuring that Nigerians appreciate the achievements of this administration and the vision behind its reforms,” Shoga said.
