The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening transport training, research, innovation and road safety, in a move expected to enhance professional standards and institutional capacity across Nigeria’s transport sector.
According to an official signed statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the agreement was signed by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and the Director General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership designed to transform transport education and position Nigeria’s transport industry in line with global best practices.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the agreement as a defining milestone in the evolution of Nigeria’s road transport sector, noting that the collaboration between the two institutions demonstrates a shared commitment to building a safer, smarter and more efficient transportation system.
He explained that the partnership would deepen collaboration in specialised training, research, technology, driver education, knowledge exchange and human capital development.
The Corps Marshal observed that while the FRSC and NITT have enjoyed a longstanding working relationship, the formalisation of their partnership through the Memorandum of Understanding opens a new phase of innovation, institutional excellence and sustainable capacity development.
He further stated that the collaboration would strengthen research capabilities, modernise driver training centres, enhance Information and Communication Technology-driven learning and produce globally competitive transport professionals equipped to address emerging mobility and road safety challenges.
According to him, the agreement goes beyond a ceremonial document, serving as an actionable framework for the immediate implementation of reforms capable of accelerating the development of Nigeria’s transport sector.
In his remarks, the Director General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for its visionary leadership and commitment throughout the negotiation process, describing the Corps’ dedication as instrumental to the successful conclusion of the agreement.
He stated that the primary objective of the Memorandum of Understanding is to ensure that transport education, professional training and research in Nigeria align with international best practices, thereby producing highly skilled professionals capable of driving sustainable national development.
The ceremony was attended by several stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer of AAI, Mr. Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and the Chairman of AAI, Mr. Ejike Njeze, alongside other dignitaries, underscoring the strategic significance of the partnership and growing confidence in Nigeria’s transport reform agenda.
