Three suspects have been arraigned before a court and remanded in a correctional facility over the alleged theft and illegal sale of government-owned mosquito nets intended for free public distribution under a government health intervention programme in Osun State.

According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command received information on 9 June 2026 regarding the alleged unlawful sale of government-owned mosquito nets.

The statement disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that Rabbi Bennett, a native of Delta State and a staff of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) attached to Ife North Local Government Area, Ipetumodu, allegedly became involved in a dispute with Opeyemi Ajibola, an commercial motorcycle rider, over proceeds from the illegal sale of the mosquito nets.

Further investigations established that the two suspects, in collaboration with one Aminu Ibrahim, allegedly sold six bundles containing 300 mosquito nets on 8 June 2026. The mosquito nets were reportedly meant for free distribution to members of the public as part of a government health intervention programme.

The police stated that the three suspects were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for interrogation, during which they reportedly confessed to their involvement in the alleged offence.

DSP Ojelabi said the matter has since been charged to court, while the suspects have been remanded at a correctional centre pending the determination of the case.

The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring that individuals entrusted with implementing public welfare programmes are held accountable in accordance with the law.
