The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat criminality, illegal arms trafficking, and other security threats across the state with the interception of 174 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and the arrest of a suspect.
According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, operatives attached to the Toto Division intercepted and arrested one Abubakar Abdullahi during a routine patrol along the Toto–Abaji Road on June 22, 2026.
The statement disclosed that a thorough search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one hundred and seventy-four rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in his possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source, ownership, or intended destination of the ammunition.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations have been intensified to unravel the criminal network behind the illegal movement of the ammunition and apprehend all other individuals connected to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling all forms of criminality, particularly the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, which he described as a major driver of violent crimes and insecurity.
He warned criminal elements operating within the state to abandon their unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law, noting that the Command has strengthened intelligence-led policing, surveillance operations, and strategic deployments across Nasarawa State.
“There will be no safe haven for criminals in Nasarawa State. We are determined to identify, track, and bring every offender to justice,” the Commissioner stated.
CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed also assured residents of the Command’s readiness to protect lives and property, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and continue with their legitimate activities without fear.
The Police Command further appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely, credible, and actionable information that would assist ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and enhance public safety.
The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminality, pledging to deploy all lawful measures necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of residents across Nasarawa State.
