The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded comprehensive security deployments and operational arrangements ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026, assuring residents of adequate protection throughout the electoral process.
According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid, the deployment covers all 2,545 polling units across the state, as well as critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities and other strategic locations.
Providing an update on the Force’s preparedness, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, Commissioner of Police Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that a multi-layered security architecture has been adopted to guarantee a peaceful, credible and hitch-free election.
He explained that security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned across polling units and other identified locations to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, election observers and sensitive materials throughout the exercise.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, assured Nigerians that all officers and personnel deployed for election duty had been thoroughly briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.
The IGP stated that the officers would carry out their duties professionally, impartially and in strict compliance with the law to support a free, fair and credible electoral process.
The Police also warned that electoral offences and any actions capable of undermining the integrity of the election would be dealt with in accordance with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
The Force therefore urged citizens to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.
As part of measures to ensure rapid response to security incidents, the Police announced the activation of a dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will remain operational throughout the election period.
Members of the public were encouraged to promptly report any security concerns through the emergency line to facilitate timely intervention by security agencies.
The Nigeria Police Force further called on eligible voters to come out and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while cautioning against the dissemination of unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property and assured residents of Ekiti State of its readiness to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible governorship election.
