Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled coordinated attacks launched by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents and forcing them to retreat in disarray.

The terrorists reportedly launched multiple attacks in the early hours of Thursday, 19 June 2026, targeting troops’ locations at Dusten Kura and Chara Road in the Buratai axis. However, vigilant troops, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly detected the movement of the insurgents and responded with overwhelming firepower in a coordinated air and ground counter-offensive.

The operation was significantly bolstered by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which deployed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets alongside precision strike platforms of the Nigerian Air Force. The seamless integration of air and ground forces proved decisive, disrupting the terrorists’ assault and delivering devastating strikes on the attackers.

Military sources disclosed that the coordinated response resulted in substantial losses to the terrorists in both personnel and equipment, while no casualties were recorded among the troops.

The successful operation highlights the high level of combat readiness of Operation HADIN KAI and underscores the effectiveness of the synergy between the air and ground components in sustaining pressure on terrorist elements across the North-East theatre.

The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to denying insurgents freedom of action and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens throughout the region. It also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Operation HADIN KAI assured that it would sustain aggressive offensive operations aimed at further degrading terrorist capabilities and restoring lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
