The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for assuring Nigerians that the schoolchildren recently abducted in Oyo State will be rescued unharmed, describing the pledge as a demonstration of the professionalism, confidence, and operational effectiveness that have characterised the current leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a jointly signed statement by CCAN Chairman, Festus Fifen, and Secretary, Peter Ireh, the association said the Inspector-General’s assurance has provided renewed hope to the affected families and reassured Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and tackling criminality across the country.
The association noted that IGP Disu’s confidence in the safe rescue of the abducted pupils reflects the intelligence-driven and results-oriented policing strategy that has recorded significant successes against kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes nationwide.
CCAN stated that at a time of national concern over the fate of the abducted children, the Inspector-General’s assurance underscored not only confidence in the operational capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force but also a firm commitment to ensuring the successful completion of ongoing rescue efforts.
The association further observed that under the leadership of IGP Disu, the Force has recorded notable progress through enhanced intelligence gathering, strategic security operations, improved community engagement, and greater transparency and accountability.
According to the statement, security operatives under the Inspector-General’s command have arrested hundreds of suspected criminals, including kidnappers, armed robbers, terrorists, cultists, and murder suspects, while rescuing at least 277 kidnap victims in coordinated operations across the country.
CCAN specifically highlighted the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on June 3, 2026. The association described the operation as one of several notable achievements that demonstrate the effectiveness of the Force’s evolving intelligence-led policing strategy.
The association said the safe recovery of the victims reinforced public confidence in the ability of the Nigeria Police Force to respond swiftly and professionally to security challenges while prioritising the safety of victims.
Describing the ongoing reforms and operational successes as a significant boost to national security, CCAN noted that the Nigeria Police Force is witnessing a renewed sense of purpose under IGP Disu’s leadership.
The association also applauded the Inspector-General’s efforts to reform and reposition the Force through people-focused initiatives and modern policing strategies, noting that deliberate reforms and citizen-centred policies have begun addressing longstanding negative perceptions while rebuilding public trust in the institution.
CCAN further highlighted the growing emphasis on intelligence-led policing and public engagement under the current leadership, stating that the approach is gradually transforming public perception of law enforcement across the country.
According to the association, IGP Disu has demonstrated through the handling of high-profile criminal cases and other security operations that effective policing can be firm, professional, and respectful of citizens’ rights.
The statement also identified improved police-citizen relations as one of the most visible achievements of the current administration, noting that the police are increasingly being viewed as partners in security rather than adversaries. It added that reductions in arbitrary arrests, improved responses to distress calls, and more transparent communication channels have contributed to restoring public confidence in the Force.
CCAN urged the Inspector-General to sustain the momentum by deepening ongoing reforms, strengthening professionalism, and intensifying efforts against criminality to ensure a safer and more secure nation.
The association pledged its continued support for the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and expressed confidence that the achievements recorded so far represent the foundation of a broader transformation agenda aimed at building a more professional, accountable, and people-oriented police institution.
