The Nigerian Army has declared that artificial intelligence, strategic communication and media integration have become indispensable tools for achieving success in contemporary military and security operations, stressing that effective information management is now as critical as traditional combat capabilities in addressing emerging security threats.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, made the assertion during the closing ceremony of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) Combined First and Second Quarters 2026 Media Workshop held in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, which focused on the theme, “Media Integration as a Force Multiplier for Joint and Multi-Agency Operational Success,” Colonel Anele said the workshop had provided a timely platform for examining the evolving role of media operations in modern security engagements.

She noted that discussions throughout the programme reinforced the importance of media integration in strengthening operational coordination, enhancing inter-agency collaboration and supporting national security objectives.

According to her, the workshop also offered participants practical insights into how effective media engagement can strengthen cooperation among military services, security agencies and other stakeholders involved in safeguarding the nation.

A major highlight of the workshop, she said, was the extensive discourse on artificial intelligence and its growing relevance to military communication and information management.

Colonel Anele explained that presentations on AI-driven capabilities for media analysis, information management and rapid-response communication demonstrated the urgent need for the Nigerian Army and its partners to remain technologically adaptive and innovative.

“In an era where speed, accuracy and influence increasingly define outcomes, artificial intelligence is no longer a luxury but a strategic necessity,” she stated.

She observed that technological advancements continue to transform how information is generated, analysed and disseminated, making artificial intelligence an increasingly indispensable component of modern security operations.

The Acting Director further emphasised the strategic value of media operations in shaping operational outcomes, noting that information has become a critical enabler in contemporary conflict environments.

“Media operations significantly enhance operational coordination, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and contribute to national success,” she said.

She explained that participants were exposed to practical strategies for deploying media engagement as a tool for shaping public narratives, countering misinformation and adversarial propaganda, building public trust and enhancing the effectiveness of military operations.

“When effectively coordinated, media engagement can shape narratives, counter adversarial propaganda, build public confidence and enhance the effectiveness of military operations,” Colonel Anele noted.

She added that discussions at the workshop reinforced the understanding that information remains a decisive factor capable of influencing outcomes across both the physical and cognitive dimensions of conflict.

The Acting Director said the concept of media as a force multiplier resonated strongly throughout the workshop, highlighting the growing significance of strategic communication in modern warfare.

“Just as firepower and manoeuvre contribute to success on the battlefield, strategic communication and media integration contribute significantly to success in the cognitive and perceptual domains,” she said.

According to her, the ability to project accurate information, maintain credibility and positively influence public perception remains essential to achieving long-term operational success.

“The ability to project truth, maintain credibility and influence perception remains central to achieving enduring operational success,” she added.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its constitutional responsibility of defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria, Colonel Anele stressed that success in contemporary military operations requires stronger cooperation among the Armed Forces, security agencies and media organisations.

“Success in modern operations requires synergy across the services, among security agencies and through close partnerships with the media,” she stated.

She commended the resource persons who facilitated the workshop for providing participants with valuable insights and practical tools needed to improve professional performance and institutional effectiveness.

The Acting Director urged participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme in their respective organisations while maintaining professionalism, accuracy and responsibility in all communications.

“Together, we can deny adversaries the advantage within the information space and amplify the impact of our collective efforts,” she said.

Colonel Anele also expressed appreciation to facilitators, media partners, participants and other stakeholders whose contributions ensured the success of the workshop.

She noted that their commitment reflected a shared determination to strengthen national security and promote a safer, stronger and more united Nigeria.

On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and the entire Nigerian Army family, she thanked all participants for their dedication and active involvement throughout the workshop.

“I charge you all to remain ambassadors of trust, champions of ethical standards and committed partners in advancing joint and multi-agency operational success through effective media engagement,” she concluded.

The workshop ended with a renewed commitment by participants to leverage emerging technologies, strengthen strategic communication capabilities and deepen collaboration among military, security and media institutions in support of national security objectives, after which Colonel Anele formally declared the workshop closed.
