Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has condemned the recent attack on Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, in which several students were abducted by gunmen.

Natasha, who made the condemnation in a statement issued Friday in Abuja, called for an improved security, describing the attack as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

She lamented that innocent students should not be subjected to such a heinous act.

“Learning environments must be protected from such attacks, making it very necessary for the security agencies to stem the tide of such attacks and ensure the safe release of the students and bring the perpetrators to justice,” she said.

She offered her support and assistance to ensure the students’ safe return and emphasised the need for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The attack on the University and abduction of some of the students by yet-to-be identified gunmen, occurred at about 8:30pm on Thursday.

A statement issued by the University after the incident partly read, “The attack occurred at approximately 8:23pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024, by suspected armed kidnappers.

“Unspecified number of students who were studying for their first-semester examinations were abducted at the various reading rooms.”
