The Nigerian Democratic Congress has dismissed reports suggesting it is lobbying individuals or groups to contest elections on its platform, clarifying that such claims are false and do not reflect the position of the party.
According to an official signed statement by the National Secretary of the party, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the reports originated from a rogue account on X (formerly Twitter) allegedly impersonating the party’s verified handle.
The party stated that the fake account, which uses its logo, colours, and identity elements, has previously been flagged and disowned, stressing that any content emanating from it should not be regarded as official communication.
The NDC urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information through its authentic and verified X handle before dissemination, in order to avoid the spread of misinformation.
While distancing itself from the misleading reports, the party expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the growing support it has received within a short period since its emergence on the political scene.
Reaffirming its open-door policy, the NDC invited Nigerians across all demographics to join the party and actively participate in its activities, including contesting elections on its platform.
The party particularly encouraged women and persons with disabilities to take advantage of its inclusive framework, describing itself as an ideological platform committed to national development, democratic values, and equal opportunity.
The NDC emphasized that it remains focused on building a broad-based political movement driven by service to Nigeria and its citizens, while welcoming new members from within the country and the diaspora.
