The Nigeria Police Force has taken a significant step toward modernising its operational fleet and adopting sustainable energy solutions with the receipt of three specialised buses powered by compressed natural gas.
In an official signed statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, disclosed that the vehicles were donated by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund in partnership with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, marking the formal commencement of the Force’s transition to green energy.
The handover ceremony, held on April 21, 2026, brought together senior officials from both organisations, including the Executive Secretary of the Police Trust Fund, Mohammad Sheidu, and the Chief Executive Officer of the PI-CNG & EV, Ismail Ahmed, alongside other key stakeholders.
According to the statement, the initiative represents the first phase of a broader strategy aimed at transforming the Police fleet through the adoption of compressed natural gas and electric vehicles. Plans are underway to convert existing operational vehicles to CNG, a move expected to significantly cut fuel costs and reduce the environmental footprint of police operations nationwide.
Beyond the provision of vehicles, the collaboration also prioritises long-term sustainability through capacity building, including the establishment of internal conversion centres to support maintenance and technological advancement within the Force.
Responding to the development, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, expressed appreciation to both organisations for their support, describing the initiative as a strategic step toward aligning the Force with global best practices in logistics and resource management.
He noted that the deployment of CNG-powered and electric vehicles would enhance personnel mobility and welfare, while strengthening operational efficiency across commands.
The ceremony concluded with the formal handover of the vehicles and an inspection tour, underscoring a shared commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police Force with modern, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
The initiative is expected to position the Force for improved service delivery while advancing its readiness in an increasingly technology-driven and energy-conscious operational environment.
