The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has engaged international development partners and diplomatic stakeholders in a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the stakeholders’ dialogue was hosted by the IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat (PRS).

The statement noted that the engagement brought together representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, the British High Commission, the Governments of Germany, Spain and Slovakia, the National Institute for Police Studies (NIPS), alongside other development organisations supporting policing reforms in Nigeria.

Speaking during the dialogue, IGP Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a modern, professional, intelligence-led and accountable institution anchored on the rule of law, respect for human rights and community partnership.

He stated that the ongoing reform agenda is designed to transform the Force into a technology-driven and citizen-focused institution capable of effectively addressing evolving security challenges across the country.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, outlined major components of the reform programme, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, strategic stakeholder engagement, oversight systems and community trust-building initiatives.

Professor Ogunsakin stressed the importance of sustained international collaboration in supporting institutional capacity development and ensuring the success of long-term policing reforms in Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police further reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to transparency, professionalism, discipline and measurable reforms aligned with global best practices while responding to Nigeria’s peculiar security realities.
