The Acting Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Barr. Charles Chukwuemeka Abana, has completed an extensive familiarisation tour of all directorates and units of the Commission, a move seen as a strategic step toward reform and boosting operational efficiency.
The tour, which began soon after Abana assumed office, concluded with visits to the Protocol, SERVICOM, and Audit units. It was aimed at giving him a thorough understanding of the Commission’s structure, departmental roles, achievements, and existing challenges.
During the visits, Abana interacted closely with staff across key departments, including Administration and Human Resources, Policy and Standards, Strategic Communications, Planning, Research and Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Legal, Investigation and Enforcement, Finance and Accounts, and the Secretariat. The engagement allowed employees to brief him on their activities, ongoing projects, and performance achievements, while also providing a platform for open dialogue.
Observers say the tour highlights Abana’s hands-on leadership style and commitment to informed decision-making. He posed detailed questions, identified operational gaps, and offered constructive feedback to enhance efficiency, accountability, and service delivery within the Commission.
The Acting Chairman also stressed the importance of interdepartmental collaboration and reaffirmed his commitment to making the FRC more responsive and results-oriented. He called for improved internal processes, greater transparency, and alignment of operations with the Commission’s core mandate of promoting fiscal discipline.
Staff members reacted positively, describing the tour as morale-boosting and indicative of genuine concern for employee welfare and institutional progress. Many expressed optimism that Abana’s tenure would bring reforms, particularly regarding staff welfare and remuneration, including the potential introduction of a new salary structure and enhanced benefits.
In response, employees pledged their support for the Acting Chairman’s vision, promising to work collaboratively toward achieving the Commission’s goals.
Analysts note that the completion of the familiarisation tour marks an important first step in Abana’s leadership, setting the stage for a more transparent, inclusive, and performance-driven administration at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
