The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner for officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, bringing together personnel of different faiths in a rare demonstration of unity, mutual respect, and shared values.

The event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, was aimed at fostering interfaith harmony within the Force while reinforcing the principles of tolerance, discipline, and cohesion among officers.

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the gathering attracted high-profile dignitaries and stakeholders, including Senator Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Honourable Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs, the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Oluwafumilola Disu, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu.

Also in attendance were retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, and Prof. Imam Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch, among other notable guests.

Speaking during the event, IGP Disu reflected on the spiritual significance of Ramadan and Lent, describing both periods as seasons of reflection, sacrifice, and service. He noted that despite differences in religious beliefs and traditions, officers of the Nigeria Police Force remain united by common values of discipline, compassion, and commitment to duty.

He stressed that religious harmony within the Force is critical to strengthening professionalism and enhancing effective service delivery, urging officers to uphold these values in their daily responsibilities.

The police boss also extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful observing Ramadan, encouraging them to embody the virtues of peace, tolerance, and selflessness associated with the holy month.

On the security front, IGP Disu assured Nigerians that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure safety across the country, particularly during the festive period. He disclosed that security has been significantly reinforced nationwide through enhanced deployments, increased surveillance, and proactive policing strategies across all Commands and Formations.

The interfaith dinner, stakeholders noted, not only symbolized unity within the Force but also underscored the leadership’s commitment to fostering inclusiveness and strengthening internal cohesion as part of broader efforts to improve policing and public trust.
