The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Ministry of Defence have reaffirmed their strategic partnership to enhance Nigeria’s airpower capability and sustain national security operations across the country.

During a familiarisation visit to the NAF Headquarters in Abuja on 11 March 2026, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, received the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Richard Pheelangwah, where both leaders discussed priorities essential for strengthening operational readiness.

Air Marshal Aneke emphasised the importance of continued institutional support in key areas such as infrastructure development, fleet modernisation, personnel welfare, and capacity building. He highlighted the need to expand operational infrastructure at NAF establishments, integrate new air platforms, and ensure the availability of equipment necessary for ongoing counter-terrorism and internal security operations.

The CAS also stressed human resource development, urging the Ministry to support enhanced training programmes and initiatives that build the skills and professionalism of NAF personnel.

Responding, Mr Pheelangwah commended the Nigerian Air Force for its expanding role in securing the nation and assured the Service of the Ministry’s continued support. He affirmed that the Ministry would facilitate infrastructure upgrades, streamline procurement processes, and bolster personnel development to align policy with operational requirements.

Both leaders expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and the Ministry of Defence would consolidate operational gains, enhance force capability, and contribute significantly to the stability and security of Nigeria.
