Troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade, in collaboration with members of the Hybrid Force, have neutralised six Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during an ambush at Targejeri crossing point in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, which was conducted based on credible intelligence about terrorist movements in the area, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three magazines and 169 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
According to an official statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, other items recovered from the neutralised terrorists included two Android phones, one Infinix and one Redmi, three button phones and some charms.
The military said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led missions and collaboration between security forces in restricting insurgents’ movements and disrupting their activities in the North-East.
It reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations against insurgents and other criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the country.
The statement warned terrorists and their collaborators that their movements, networks and activities would continue to face decisive action from security forces.
It also urged insurgents, informants, logistics suppliers and other collaborators to abandon their unlawful activities or face the full weight of ongoing military operations.
Members of the public were equally encouraged to provide credible and timely information about suspicious movements and activities to the appropriate security authorities.
The military said it remained committed to protecting lives and property, safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring that communities affected by insurgency could resume their lawful economic activities without fear.
