The Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has applauded President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for strengthening the Nigerian Army with sophisticated weapons and critical military equipment to confront emerging security threats across the country.
Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday, 5 March 2026, when he received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Makurdi.
In an official signed statement, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, disclosed that the governor acknowledged the President’s sustained support to the Armed Forces, describing the provision of modern weapons and combat enablers as a strategic intervention that has significantly enhanced the Army’s operational readiness.
During the meeting, Lieutenant General Shaibu assured the governor that the Nigerian Army is intensifying efforts to strengthen its operational capacity in Benue State and other theatres across the country. He noted that the acquisition of modern weapons systems and combat support equipment—facilitated by the strong backing of President Tinubu—would greatly improve the effectiveness of troops in addressing insecurity.
The COAS commended the Benue State Government and its people for their resilience and continued support to security agencies despite the challenges confronting parts of the state. He particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, emphasizing that such collaboration has played a vital role in sustaining ongoing military operations and consolidating gains in the fight against criminal elements.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further appealed for sustained synergy between the military, government authorities, and local communities, stressing that close cooperation remains indispensable to restoring lasting peace and stability.
In his response, Governor Alia described the visit of the COAS as both timely and reassuring, especially at a period when intensified security efforts are crucial. He commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing operations within the state.
Reaffirming his administration’s support, the governor pledged continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as they scale up efforts to curb criminality and entrench peace across Benue State. He expressed confidence that the strengthened military capacity would translate into improved security outcomes for residents and communities affected by insecurity.
